“Palace of Light”, according to the historian Alfredo Romário Martins, is the first Brazilian University. A araucária ou pinheiro brasileiro se destaca das outras espécies brasileiras principalmente por sua forma original que dá às paisagens do sul uma característica toda especial. No passado, antes que a lavoura de café e cereais cobrisse as terras paranaenses e antes que os trigais cobrissem os campos gaúchos, sua presença era tão comum que os índios chamaram de "curitiba" (que quer dizer "imensidão de pinheiros") toda uma extensa região onde esta árvores predominava. Praça 19 de Dezembro, vista da Rua RiachueloA Praça 19 de Dezembro, também conhecida como Praça do Homem Nu é um logradouro localizado no centro da cidade de Curitiba, Paraná, Brasil.

A praça foi inaugurada na esteira do programa de obras públicas comemorativas do centenário da emancipação política do estado do Paraná, ocorrida em 19 de dezembro de 1853.

A praça conta com um obelisco de pedra, contendo dizeres comemorativos ao centenário da emancipação acima referida e uma grande estátua em granito de um homem nu (daí o apelido popular do logradouro ser Praça do Homem Nu), de autoria dos escultores radicados no Brasil Erbo Stenzel e Umberto Cozzo. Pretendiam os escultores retratar o homem paranaense olhando em direção ao futuro.

Botanical Garden

Inaugurated in 1991, it is one of the most visited places in Curitiba. Created likewise the French Gardens, it unfolds a flower carpet to the visitors, right in the entrance. The green house built with a metallic structure contains botanical species and a water spring as well. The native vegetation is mixed with walking tracks.

The Botanical Garden, managed by Gert Hatschbach attracts researchers from all over the world. It offers place to exhibitions, library and an auditorium. Despite of the rare beauty its main goal is to bring about environmental consciousness to the citizens as a way of survival. Is the city of the future’s synthesis, that never sleeps.Here we don’t wait for the time, we make it happen. With 120 meters of extension and 12 meters of width it is composed of 32 arches in tubular metallic structure. With 34 stores-from the late night sandwich to ATM, from the flower seller to the children’s milk-it is a meeting point for tourists and curitibanos as well searching for leisure, fun, night life and very good restaurants. Here people have access to the Internet with no charge any time of the day or night by simply making an appointment. TEATRO GUAÍRA (Praça Santos Andrade-centro)
Guaíra Theatre
Living memory of the multifaceted culture of the curitibanos is one of the biggest theater in Latin America. It was first denominated as São Theodoro Theater inaugurated in 1894 in Dr. Muricy Street and renamed in 1900 as Guaíra Theater. It was demolished in 1930 and its rebuilding took place in 1952, already in the present site and it was connected to the 100th anniversary of Paraná political emancipation (December 19th 1953).
It was finally finished in the 70’s. It has three auditoriums (the biggest one with capacity for 2173 spectators).
